Great to have FTM back Jon. I have a question about the return to the office push. Have white collar workforce firms changed their offices in any meaningful way or is hot desking the best they can do? It seemed to me at the time that lock down taught us offices had two primary uses, socializing and serendipity. (socializing, including cultural inculcation, not just fun and gossip.) Is there evidence of changes in areas such as architecture and performance management? Or did managers just mandate attendance?
So far I've only seen talk of mandated attendance on the management side, nothing yet on how this affects worker experience. I don't think design has caught up or evolved since the lockdowns. Anecdotally, I mostly see empty cubicles these days! However, when I am in the office, I've come to appreciate those moments of in-person joy and clarity that are just hard to come by via Zoom.
I really loved the shoe story at the end! As someone who could never afford the cool shoes everyone was wearing, I really related. Great writing!
Aw thank you, Pete! I appreciate your kind words!
My dad always loved Pro-Keds!
Those are great shoes!!
